Recently adopted changes to the State of Minnesota elevator and escalator codes are in effect as of January 29, 2007. Since these updates are not covered under any current maintenance agreement you may have, you are free to get quotes from other elevator service companies. Items that will need to be replaced as part of these code changes are: Hydraulic cylinders of single bottom type installed prior to 1973.   Retroactive installation of restricted opening of hoist-way and car doors  which prohibits the doors from opening when the elevator is between floors.   Fire fighters service phase one is required on elevators with 25 feet or  more of travel from designated level and fire fighters service phase one and phase two are required on elevators with 35 feet or more of travel from designated level.   Required annual testing to determine step/skirt index and  clearance between step and skirt for escalators.   Written maintenance records and annual inspection records are required.
